A painter, Shade Maret describes her process, stating “I use shapes and color in bright, loose brush strokes to capture the beauty in what might be considered an ordinary house or scene.” Nora Phillips works with both fibers and paints, most recently creating mixed media paintings in which she is able to incorporate fiber techniques. Currently a professor emeritus, Halperen taught modern literature and modern art history at North Carolina State University. Halperen’s background also includes being a juror and curator for various exhibitions, and an art reviewer for national publications. Nsenga Knight will be working in Studio 215. Nsenga Knight, In love with/Struggle for (part of the interdisciplinary project Last Rite) Upcoming exhibits include a solo exhibition at Designbox (Raleigh, NC) in 2013. Joye’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including The Drawing Show, Pump Project (Austin, TX) and Red Dot, Women & Their Work (Austin, TX). She states, “I find inspiration in observing the overlooked man-made landscape: grand communication towers, worn empty signs, and concrete silos from the car window.” Joye received a Bachelor of Architecture from UNC-Charlotte in 2003.
